NEET UG 2026 was conducted today, May 3. Read our detailed paper analysis, section-wise difficulty level, student reactions, and expected cutoffs for government medical seats.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 was conducted today, May 3, 2026, across thousands of centers in India and abroad. With over 25 lakh aspirants appearing for the exam, the competition for the approximately 1.1 lakh MBBS seats remains at an all-time high.

Based on initial feedback from students and subject matter experts, here is a comprehensive review of the NEET UG 2026 question paper.

πŸ“Š NEET 2026 Overall Difficulty Level

The overall difficulty of the NEET 2026 paper was rated as Moderate. While Biology remained student-friendly, Physics and certain parts of Chemistry tested the conceptual depth and speed of the candidates.

SectionDifficulty LevelNature of Questions
Biology (Botany + Zoology)Easy to Moderate95%+ NCERT based, but lengthy.
ChemistryModerateBalanced, Inorganic was direct NCERT.
PhysicsModerate to ToughConcept-heavy, few tricky numericals.
OverallModerateMore time-consuming than 2025.

πŸ”¬ Section-wise Detailed Analysis

1. Biology (360 Marks)

Biology is the backbone of NEET, and this year was no different.

  • Botany: Slightly lengthier than Zoology. Questions on Genetics and Plant Physiology required careful reading.
  • Zoology: Mostly direct from NCERT. Human Physiology and Biotechnology had a high weightage.
  • Trend: There was a significant number of Assertion-Reason and Statement-based questions, which made the section time-consuming despite being "easy."

2. Chemistry (180 Marks)

Chemistry was a well-balanced section.

  • Inorganic: Fully NCERT-based. Direct lines from p-block and Coordination Compounds.
  • Organic: Standard named reactions. GOC was the decider here.
  • Physical: Calculations were moderate, but a couple of questions in Section B were slightly tricky.

3. Physics (180 Marks)

As expected, Physics was the "decider" section for many.

  • Topics: High weightage to Modern Physics, Semiconductors, and Current Electricity.
  • Difficulty: The questions were not necessarily out of syllabus, but they required multi-step application of formulas.
  • Student Verdict: Many students reported that Physics took more than the allotted 60 minutes, leading to time pressure in other sections.

πŸ—£οΈ Student Reactions & Expert Verdict

Most students we spoke to at the exam centers expressed a mixed sentiment.

"Biology was easy but I spent almost 70 minutes on it because of the long statements. Physics was tough but fair if you knew your concepts. Chemistry saved my time." β€” Anjali, NEET Aspirant from Delhi.

Expert Take: The paper was designed to filter out students who rely only on rote memorization. Candidates who practiced a high frequency of mock tests would have managed the time better.

πŸ“‰ Expected Cutoff for NEET 2026

Given the difficulty level and the increasing number of candidates, we expect the cutoffs to remain similar to or slightly higher than last year.

  • For Government Medical Seats (All India Quota - General): 640 - 655 Marks
  • For Top State Colleges: 625+ Marks
  • For AIIMS Delhi: 710 - 715+ Marks
