The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA). It is the most flexible MBA entrance exam in India because it is conducted four times a year and offers multiple testing modes (paper-based, computer-based, and remote proctored).

While top-tier IIMs don’t accept MAT, over 600+ B-Schools across India rely on it for their admissions, making it a critical backup for many aspirants.

Exam Overview & Conducting Body

  • Exam Name: Management Aptitude Test (MAT)

  • Total Questions: 200 Questions
  • Total Marks: Scaled Score (Composite score usually calculated out of 800)
  • Question Types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +1 mark for every correct answer
    • -0.25 marks for every incorrect answer

The 200 questions are split equally among five distinct sections (40 questions each):

  1. Language Comprehension: 40 Questions
  2. Intelligence and Critical Reasoning: 40 Questions
  3. Data Analysis and Sufficiency: 40 Questions
  4. Mathematical Skills: 40 Questions
  5. Indian and Global Environment (GK): 40 Questions
    • Crucial Note: The GK section score is generally NOT included in the final composite score calculation by most top colleges.

Expected Cut-offs (Composite Score / Percentile)

Colleges usually look at either the Composite Score (out of 800) or the overall Percentile.

  • BIMTECH (Retail/Insurance), XIME Bangalore: 85.0+ to 90.0+ Percentile (~650+ Score)
  • Christ University, PUMBA Pune: 80.0+ to 85.0+ Percentile (~600+ Score)
  • NDIM Delhi, Jaipuria Institute, ITM Navi Mumbai: 75.0+ to 80.0+ Percentile (~550+ Score)
  • Tier-3 B-Schools: Accept scores ranging from 50.0 to 70.0 Percentile.
